FAQ 2

What will happen to my existing analog TV when the signals all
go
digital in Feb. 2009?
- If you pay a service
provider and they intend to stay in business, they will
handle this issue for you.
- Your service provider is currently receiving analog signals
from the source, or broadcasters (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, The Discovery
Channel, and the like). Many cable systems and all of the others
are digitizing the signal prior to sending it to your home but this
signal can only be as good as the one they receive. When this
change occurs the provider will have to make alterations, not you!
- If you are using an antenna for your TV:
- Any equipment currently capable of using High Definition
signals will not require any modification.
- Digital tuners are already available for those TV's not capable of High Definition.
- 2 coupons per household can be obtained at:
https://www.dtv2009.gov/ApplyCoupon.aspx
- A list of eligible devices is located at:
https://www.ntiadtv.gov/cecb_list.cfm
- There are currently a lot of DVD recorders offered at
huge discounts because they have analog tuners in them and will be
obsolete. Please do not buy them unless:
- You do not intend to record TV programming.
- You plan to use it with a converter box and an analog
TV.
- Buying a DVD recorder with a digital tuner can double as a
converter box for your analog TV. If you
have thoughts of copying TV programming (directly or from your
DVR) or copying your family VCR tapes to DVD purchase a DVD
recorder/VCR with a DIGITAL tuner to handle three issues in one unit.
